A Visit to Hardwick Hall, near Chesterfield
A wing of Hardwick Hall
Sometimes, I think I do have a lucky horseshoe or something hiding in one of my drawers – I was beginning to get nagged by members of the Cross Stitch Guild to arrange another stitching weekend and I had a call from my contact, the lovely Jenny at the Hilton Hotel, Leicester wondering if we planned to come back again…….After a short discussion, I was on the phone to the Estate Office at Hardwick Hall and I love it when a plan comes together.
The Long Gallery
As a result of all these warblings, I can tell you that the team at Hardwick Hall have been just marvellous and have even arranged a special conducted tour of the embroideries and tapestries within the hall – we will be allowed in before the hall opens to the public so we can have the place to ourselves. I have to admit to being very excited about this – I have been to the Hall before and the tapestries are truly astounding but never had the time to just stand and stare!
The Hilton Hotel are being very good and are letting us have the room all day on Sunday so the weekend will be extended. The disadvantage of a trip was the reduction of the stitching time – but this time we all win!
This will be one of our festive events for this year so my only puzzle is to create something Christmassy inspired by Hardwick Hall! Ho Hum……
Will chat gain soon…..
