Our Trip to Norway

We are back from our wonderful trip to Norway courtesy of Arena Travel. I really enjoyed this holiday – I have to admit to having a few trepidations beforehand. I am not a good sailor and had visions of arctic storms at best and shipwreck possible. As it was the weather was very cold, in fact perishing in Hammerfest but the sea was calm.

From the plane flying in to Kirkenes

We began the trip meeting up at Gatwick airport and then flying to Oslo for an overnight stay. Up with the lark and on to another aircraft and flew via Tromso to Kirkenes, very close to the Russian border. You can see Bill posing by the No Entry signs! We are well in to the Arctic circle!

Off to Russia anyone! You can see how cold it was….

Our Guide, the lovely Thomas, took us to see all the sites locally – it was difficult to take in the fact that this was 2pm and very dark.  Ideal sitting on the ship stitching but a bit strange out and about. When we reached our hotel destination at the end of the holiday we were at the Hardanger Folkemuseum on the very day that the sun actually rose above the horizon for the first time for months. Cakes were distributed to celebrate!
