To Milan for Bill’s 60th Birthday
The enormous needle and thread sculpture outside Carmona station
The splendid Galleria shopping centre
Just a quick note to tell you what we have been up to! Bill and I were working together at the Knitting & Stitching Show and one of the open days included his 60th Birthday! I surprised him on the day with tickets to fly to Milan and attend a special performance of The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart. It was wonderful – we walked through the city in our evening dress and I felt like a millionaire! The following night, we joined the queue for Gallery tickets for a Brahams Piano Concerto and joined the throng standing in the gallery. I must admit that felt more normal but it was lovely to experience both ends of the spectrum!
I thought you would smile when you see the needle and thread sculpture – built to celebrate Milan as a centre of the fashion industry. Surely, this must be the largest away waste knot in the world! I am working on a project inspired by Milan as I write and it will appear in a later edition of Stitch That magazine.
